What it means to THRIVE

What it means to THRIVE

I coined a word years ago. It’s my own thing/idea about how I live. I shared it with someone last night for the first time and it was received enthusiastically, and encouraged to share it with others. Thrival. Thrive+ al This is what happens when we/I go BEYOND survival. I know many people feel like they’re just getting by right now. They’re surviving. Or they have survived some truly difficult things in life. Trauma, abuse, assault, ruin, loss, hardship, health issues, etc. We all have had to overcome situations and difficulties in life. I’ve absolutely had my share. Some of the most painful for me happened young. One example is that I was kicked out at the age of 16. I’ve been “on my own” ever since. Here’s where Thrival comes in: When faced with difficult circumstances and the crucible they provide, I have found ways to come out on top. Those things have made me who I am. A Thrivalist. I didn’t just “survive.” I freaking worked through, found the lessons, dug deep AF, confronted my $hit, and ROSE like a muthereffing PHOENIX. Each time was an opportunity to grow and go beyond what I thought possible, reach beyond my expectations of myself, and gain more out of life. And my life is extraordinary. I’ve come to see that when it’s get tough, things fall apart, $hit hits the fan, and problems occur, they happen for important reasons. Those things are often opportunities to RISE and grow, heal and move on. Die to what is or was. And be reborn to a new vision/version. Thrive is one of...
My Personal Manifesto

My Personal Manifesto

In 2014 I wrote something of a manifesto. Reading through it again today I find it still fits in many ways. Have you ever written something like this? . . . As your friend I want what is best for you, and for you to be happy and healthy in all ways. Always. As your Priestess know that I am at ease with being your catalyst – wherever that may lead. Hopefully to your highest self and best good. May I propel you towards your deepest desire and innermost dreams – however difficult they may be to attain. May I invoke in you an unending need to delve, to know, to change & grow, to soar – towards attainment and to feel every feeling and embrace each process along the way. I will help you to be more present in your choices and in the moments that truly count – Not checked out through drugs, alcohol, sugar, food, sex…. Or anything else. I will call you out from all those places where you hide from life, from yourself, from Truth. And I will show you the mirror so that you may gaze upon that which you need to see. As your lover I am at ease with the outcome. Even if that means you are no longer part of my life. I give gratitude for your presence in my life and to you for showing me more of what I want and do not want in my life and relationships. For you are a catalyst as well. My God and my Priest. You show me the way to my...

Grace in the Space

One of the most important lessons life has taught me is this – Don’t be in such a rush to fill the empty spaces in life. Instead see them as the gift they are – opportunities to reflect, restore, replenish, re-evaluate, rest, play, dream…. When everything is falling apart or blowing up around me, I’ve learned not to look at it as if it’s a problem. It’s truly opportunity. Possibilities lie therein. Life will hand us space when it’s time to shift, or when something important is trying to surface. I’ve learned to honor those spaces so that if or when the time comes to fill them, only that which truly belongs filter through. Shifting or reframing my perspective, finding the moment of growth. Asking, “What is trying to be born here?” And staying open, confused, bewildered. UNCOMFORTABLE AF. Feeling all of the pressure. Witnessing my own anxiety and fear. Going deep beneath the surface. That’s the space where the miracle, the shift in perspective can happen. Then staying open and flexible and watch in amazement as things open up. It took me 40-some years to learn what it means that “patience is a virtue.” There’s Grace in the space. ~Lisa...

Step Outside the Matrix to THRIVE!

Step Outside the Matrix to THRIVE!

You have so much untapped potential inside you! Dear One, It may be summer time, but life is super busy, super crazy – everyone’s rushing around taking care of all the things! Does that sound about right? Ugh. I say NO. That’s not right at all. That’s no way to live a fulfilling life. Society is not set up to help you thrive. It’s set up to make sure you “follow the rules”, that you’re a good little cog in the government/corporate machine, that you’re a good little consumer unit – buying, spending, busy – all while working hard to pay for it all. Staying busy keeps you from paying attention to what truly matters in life, insuring that you’re too wrapped up in all the things you “should” do. When you’re that busy and distracted, the government/corporate Machine continues to indoctrinate you, sneaks behind everyone’s backs with detrimental policy-making, destroying the environment, and exercising “Power Over” the people. If you’ve ever seen the movie The Matrix, then you’ve had a glimpse into this world of illusion that only works to serve the government, the institutions, bureaucracies and the very wealthy. Here’s what I know to be True (with a capital T) – You absolutely DO NOT have to live inside the Matrix and, Life gets MUCH BETTER when you stop following “the rules” I’m not saying you should disobey laws, hurt yourself or others, or go completely AWOL. (though sometimes that has a nice ring to it – like becoming an ex-pat.) What I AM saying is that there are so many choices available to you that you...

I Hear Voices in My Head!

Lately, as I’ve been working with clients, listening to what they are dealing with and going through, I’ve seen that so much of our unhappiness is self created.   We get caught up in the whirlwind of thought some refer to as the “ego mind,” and we ruminate on why we aren’t good enough, why something will never work, that we “should” do this, or “shouldn’t” do that, and so on, and so on.   Sound familiar?   Hey, we’ve all been there. Many of us live “there,” in that negative head space, or we visit frequently, choosing to limit ourselves and our lives by listening to that voice inside our head. And truly, most of us have more than one of those voices.   It helps to identify those voices – give them names, and, sense where in your mind or body they live. For example, my internal naysayer is named Negative Nancy and she’s in the right side of my head, towards the back, behind my ear. When you locate and identify those voices, it becomes easier to tune in to the voices within you that are your Higher Self, your intuition, your Angels and Guides.   Here’s another thing – a way toward healing. When you catch yourself going down the rabbit hole of self-criticism, see it as an opportunity.   It’s an opportunity to exercise self-love and self-forgiveness.   Self-love and forgiveness are True paths to healing and wholeness, regardless of the origin of the initial pain or trauma.   Treat yourself as you would treat someone you deeply love. Replace those negative thoughts with...

Positive Politics?!

Originally written/posted November 7, 2012   I have the benefit of not watching TV. I haven’t had my TV hooked up to cable, satellite or antenna for 11 years now.   And I don’t miss it.   Most of all, I am happy not to have it around election time, when things get nasty & grown people behave in bitter, ugly ways. Why do elections bring out the worst in people?   It’s good to be passionate about beliefs. It’s good to engage in political debate. It’s good to stand up for what we think is good and true in this world.     But, what is good and true in the world, really?   I can tell you that it’s not getting ugly, being condescending, spouting hatred and lies. It’s not wishing ill-will upon folks that hold differing opinions, beliefs or politics.     It’s fair to say that many, if not most, of us feel that our political system needs an over-haul. It’s fair to say that we all feel depressed, angry, frustrated and condescended to during election time. We could go on & on & on & on about the problems and what’s wrong with the system or this or that politician.   That is easy and we’ve engaged in this conversation for some time now.     I propose another approach entirely.   But first, let me ask you – How’s that hatred working for ya? What good things have come about because of your anger and frustration? Do you feel like your wheels are spinning and spinning and you are getting no where fast?...

What did you just say?

Originally written/published October 8, 2012   The other day I was giving a massage to an older woman who obviously takes good care of her body, and remarked that I could tell she was doing a good job of it because I can feel the healthy muscle tissue. She responded by putting her body down. She had no health issues, was on no medications, looked good, felt good except for some stress tension, and had no history of disease, surgery, allergies or injuries. I urged her to appreciate her body for its excellent health, not to take it for granted. And there I was, having this conversation with yet another client. So I am going to have this conversation with you, too – LOVE your body!  Yes! Love your body! Tell your body you love it and appreciate all its done for you.Change your language around how you look at your health and your body, and you will change your relationship to it. You will also, most likely, change your health for the better. There are numerous studies and science that proves our thoughts and words impact our cells & the health of those cells. Concepts like neuroplasticity and neuropeptides have been proven to be real, providing an undeniable link between body & mind.    The thing is, our minds & our thoughts can be changed, programmed if you will. When we catch ourselves saying the same negative things over & over again, we program our cells to believe those things. So why not program those cells to be happy and healthy? We do this through the use of...
